About
Ben is an accomplished Australian cinematographer, with a particular passion for natural history and documentary production. His work has featured in programs for the BBC, ITVx, Disney+, Discovery, National Geographic and Apple TV. Recent work includes the Netflix feature documentary Kangaroo Valley on which he was responsible for long lens work to capture intimate portraiture of Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Willy Wagtails. He has also turned out some stunning macro sequences for recent Attenborough series The Mating Game and Life in Colour.
In addition to wildlife, Ben has also worked on Australian documentaries including Paul Kelly Stories of Me and After the Fires. Ben is also a regular contributor to Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s long running flagship series Backroads, that tells stories of Australian people and places.
Ben’s approach is informed by a strong technical foundation. He graduated with a BA in television production in 1993, and soon after he began working at Australian rental house Lemac, initially as a camera technician and finally, National Rental Manager. Following on from this time he freelanced as a 2nd and 1st AC in commercials and drama.
Ben is currently lead cinematographer on The Swimming Pool, a film that will document Sydney’s iconic Bondi Icebergs winter swimming club, due for release in 2024.
